But do it for the right reasons.
Hate me because you don't believe in my faith, because you dislike my politics, because you think piercings are a mark of poor moral character. Hate me because long hair is ugly, because jewelery is obscene, because my clothes are too provocative, or not revealing enough. Hate me because you can't stand my favorite colour, because I have do-dads hanging from my rear-view mirror, because of the profession I've chosen. Hate me because I have a college education or because I read too much. Hate me because I love live music, because I support the Arts, because I like mountains and clean country air.
Hate me, if you must, but do it for the right reasons.
Hate me for the things I've chosen to be, or do, or embrace, or support or embody. But, seriously, don't hate me because of the things that I've inherited. Don't hate me for my eye colour, the texture of my skin or hair, my stature, my size. Don't hate me for my skin colour, or where I was born or to whom. Because these things? These are just the outline, the framework for the person that I've made myself, and hating me because of the outline? It doesn't make sense. It's like hating a house because it has a foundation and a door. Or hating a car because it has tires and a steering wheel. We don't get to choose these things about ourselves and I, for one, am way more interested in what people make of the building blocks we're given.

This post is about the Archive of Our Own. I know I've talked about this before because I've been privileged to have an account there for over a year now, and I tend to babble about the inherent awesomeness of this project. :D But, in case you haven't heard me, or don't get the fuss, I'm going to tell you why it's awesome and why you want to get involved.
Here is why you should sign up for an account and start uploading your multitudinous fics there:
1. It's panfandom. You can put everything you've ever written in one location! Highlander? Colbert Report? RPF? HP? XF? If you've written it, you can put it there. :D For those of you familiar with Gossamer (which is the only other inclusive archive that I've ever encountered), it's like Goss, if every possible fandom was included.
2. "But," you say to me, "I wrote under different names when I was writing X-Files than when I was writing Buffy." Have no fear! You can manage multiple handles and names from one central login account. Imagine that! It's amazing! :D
3. "Yeah," you say, "But I already have my fics archived." Ah, but not like this! First, there has never before been a centralized archive open to all authors in any fandom where you can put the work of every fandom. (Even typing that sentence brings me joy and happiness! :D) Before you suggest that fanfiction.net meets that criteria, let me remind you that only works for you if you're writing G or PG-13 fic. This is an open archive, it accepts everything. Yes, everything. I am aware that you can create and host your own panfandom archive on your own webspace, but this is an open archive for everyone to enjoy.
4. Still not convinced? Let's talk about the fact that this archive is the project of the Organization For Transformative Works a non-profit organization primary funded by fans and run by fans. This organization is direct result of LJ's TOSsing Fail and was created with the explicit intention to protect fanworks and the doctrine of fair use.
5. That means that they own the servers. Even on your webpage, you don't own the servers. That means that your host can TOS you if they want; OTW isn't TOSsing anyone. :D In fact they're working to protect fandom.
6. It has a slick, shiny, easy to use and understand interface and they're incorporating elements of web 2.0 to make it easily searchable and user-friendly. It's largely intuitive, something that I personally enjoy.
7. It allows you to load your full works and you don't have to deal with the pesky character-limits imposed by LJ. There are no bizarre formatting restrictions. It has a feedback/commenting feature as well as a handy visual grid to help you scroll through and sort fic easier. It makes it easy to add your fandoms to the list and, as more and more people upload their works, it makes it a wonderful depository of whatever you're looking for. There are no limit on characters/ratings/elements.
8. You can filter your results to better find and read the exact type of story that you're looking for.
9. Heck, it's just wonderful, really. I think you should all go and look at it at the very least, and if you're interested, sign up to receive an account code. This is still in the beta process so there may still be bugs, but I have to say that all my experiences with the archive have been wonderful and I've rarely encountered any issues, even in the earlier beta-stages. :D
10. Final offer. Those people already on the archive were given invite codes (one apiece for now), if you want one and aren't wanting to wait on the archive to send it to you--the first person to ask for one gets mine. :D [I know many of you already have them because it opened Saturday, but I wasn't online. So I have one up for grabs!] Taken. :D

Our illustrious leaders, in their infinite wisdom, chose to use music, including songs from Pearl Jam, commercials, Sesame Street and many others to torture, disorient and otherwise torment detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Read The Article.
Now many musicians are signing a petition to close the detainment center and protesting the use of their music (and others) in such activities.
From Roseanne Cash: “I think every musician should be involved. It seems so obvious. Music should never be used as torture.”
I agree. Music should be, and is, many things, but a deliberate and malicious attack on another person is not one of them.
P.S. Hollywood is already doing quite well at corrupting my childhood, I don't need Big Bird used as a weapon as well. :(

What a cool, cool thing.
Or, rather, how cool are we all?
Very cool. Do something awesome today. :D

~We will be kinder to each other.
~We will accomplish more and complain less.
~We will forgive ourselves and others.
~We will practice empathy, forgiveness and acceptance.
~We will accept that we are all different and embrace these things rather than fear or reject them.
~We will approach life from a viewpoint of loving-kindness.
~We will acknowledge our mistakes, learn from them and remember only the lesson--not the circumstances.
~We will allow that life is a process and that we are all at different stages.
~We will recognize that no one will totally mirror our experiences or emotions.
~We will give thanks.
~We will spend our time deliberately and dedicate our time and energies to those things that we feel most deserve them.
~We will understand that there is no future and, instead, begin now.
coppervale's list of things that are true:
I. If you really want to do something, no one can stop you; but if you really don't want to do something, no one can help you.
II. Live deliberately. Decide: are you the kind of person things happen to, or the kind of person who makes things happen?
III. Never, ever, sacrifice what you want the most, for what you want the most at that moment.

Have gone to chase dreams and rainbows.
Will bring back the future and brightly coloured candies.
As in all things, email will reach me (periodically). (libgirl at the eljay dot the com). Let me know what transpires in my absence, please.
OMG!!! The invites are going out today for the first 100,000 users!!! :D I'm so excited. I doubt I'll get one (though I signed up....), but if you happen to have an invite, think of me for nomination? ;)
If you don't know what it is and you haven't seen me post the link here before (or tweet it), I'm embedding it again.
You can skip the first 5 minutes or so if you want, but then it starts to get FREAKING COOL! :)
